I don’t usually advertise my personal projects on this blog, but since I have been working on and have now just finished my 2010 Calendar, I wanted to share it with you and tell you a little bit about what inspired it.
In 1986 my dad was diagnosed with MALT Lymphoma of the stomach, spleen and part of the pancreas. He lived 12 years with a pouch where they had surgically removed his stomach. My dad was a strong ox of a man. He could do anything he set his mind to, you would have never known he was that sick unless you lived with him.
In 1998 his cancer came back in his liver, kidneys and lungs. He died only 5 days after receiving the news that it had come back. It will be 11 years this Monday, November 23rd, since he left this world.
It seems as though one form or another of gastric cancer has been following me around ever since. I have had good friends and mentors pass away from this horrible disease and more family members.
Plagued with my own digestive problems, I felt it was time to create something in aid of Gastric Cancer research. Part of the profits this 2010 calendar receives will go toward the Abramson Cancer Center’s Gastrointestinal Cancer Program.
